The president of State Reform Party Sarawak (STAR), Lina Soo is outraged by the response of Federal Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng to Sarawak’s request for its share of tourism tax revenue, by demanding that Sarawak settle its RM2.5billion debt to the federal government first.
Soo is shocked that for the first time in the history of Malaysia, a Public Officer no less than the Federal Minister of Finance is retaliating in such an unseemly manner in the public domain, in responding to Sarawak’s request on tourism tax.
‘This is an overkill’, says Soo, ‘as the Sarawak Tourism Minister was
merely asking for Sarawak’s share of the tourism tax revenue as was
promised by the Federal Government’.
With regard to State-Federal debt, the protocol would have been for the Federal Finance Minister to approach the Sarawak Finance Minister if the Sarawak Government owes money, adds Soo.
Soo questions Sarawak oil and gas monies that had gone to Malaya for the last 45 years with only 5% back. Where is the 95%, asks Soo, and where is the share to assist Sarawak in reducing poverty, building roads and providing piped water to all households?
Soo says that the Sarawak Government should ask the Federal Government to repatriate to Sarawak the billions that Petronas had exploited and siphoned off from Sarawak oil and gas under the pretext of the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA).
Soo says that the arrogance of Federal Ministers knows no bounds and if not for the oil and gas revenues of Sarawak and Sabah expropriated under the unconstitutional PDA, Malaya would never have the superhighways, transportation and skyscrapers built on the scale as seen today.
Soo also reminds the Federal Finance Minister on the election pledge of 20% oil royalty and 50% tax proceeds to be returned to Sarawak, which is yet to be seen.
The people of Sarawak have been duped by false promises, and Soo calls upon Federal Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng to apologise to Sarawakians for the broken faith and failure to deliver their campaign vows.

The PH government has been squashed and spoilt by Mahathir and Ling Guan Eng whom, I believe, 95% of the Chinese in the Malaysia federation condemn him now. We just can't believe that he acts so insensibly and insensitively to the rights of Sarawak.
Once he said that the Federal government would only pay back the due to Sarawak and Sabah when the financial position had improved. Where on earth could the debtor postpone the monthly installment to the bank in the pretext that he is in debt now? It is just incredible. I should say that he is not fit to be the FM in the Malaysia federation. He acts funny and aggressively. When 95% of the Chinese turn their backs on him when 'their hearts turn to their back'(人心向背转/人心转向背), will he still be in the office?
