MUKAH: A man was killed in an accident that occurred at KM75 of Mukah/Selangau Road near here on Sunday.
According to Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau, the victim was identified as Galvest Dulan Garan, aged 21, from Rumah Mohmat at Mile 36, Tamin in Selangau.
It is said that the incident occurred around 5pm.
Based on initial investigation, the man was riding his motorcycle from Selangau when he was hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) coming from Mukah, which was driven by a 53-year-old man.
“The impact from the collision caused the motorcycle and the 4WD, along with the two men, to plunge into a 4m-deep ravine by the roadside,” said Jimmy in a statement yesterday.
Paramedics from Mukah Hospital, who arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call, pronounced the motorcyclist dead on site.
The body was later taken to the hospital mortuary.
“The 4WD driver was found unconscious, with severe head injuries. He was rushed to Selangau Health Clinic, where the doctors immediately referred him to Sibu Hospital,” added Jimmy.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 of Road Transport Act 1987.
