SIBU: Some RM13 million worth of projects have been implemented in Bawang Assan this year, Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh told a press conference yesterday.

According to him, the projects are under Rural Road Projects, which is worth about RM6.5 million; RM5 million under the Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) and RM1.5 million under Basic Infrastructure Projects (PIAS).

He said there were 19 projects under the rural road projects and out of them, five were in progress while one would be implemented next month.

The projects in progress include resurfacing of Batang Igan Access; topping up flood-prone sections of Chew Kung Road; improving and widening of Tai Tong Road; constructing 500m access gravel road to Rumah Jalak; and sealing a 300m stretch and repairing of existing timber bridge at Tanjung Kunyit Road (back portion).

The replacing of existing timber bridge to I-beam bridge in Nam Ping Chiong Lane 1 will start tomorrow.

There are 16 projects under RTP. One of them is the upgrading of Kampung Bungan Kecil Road which is in progress.

Meanwhile, there are 34 projects under PIAS and out of that, 12 had already been completed and others were still in progress.

“We have one big project, which is the upgrading of 8.28km Penasuk-Batu Burak Road, costing about RM18 million and it is a two-year project.

“The construction work has already started and we will officially launch the project some time in November,” Wong said.

He said the project would benefit people of 12 longhouses.

Wong, who is Bawang Assan assemblyman, said the RM6 million water supply project from Rassau to Sungai Pinang had already been approved, but the project was delayed due to objections from the landowners.

“The project has been approved and the money is there already, but due to the objections from the landowners, we cannot carry it out for now.

“We are still discussing with the landowners,” he said.

He said the project would benefit 15 longhouses and a village of 88 families.

Wong also revealed that there were 16 proposed projects costing about RM7.8 million to be carried out next year.

He said the projects were in Iban areas.

Also present at the press conference were political secretaries to chief minister Andrew Shilling and Pau Kiew Chuang, and divisional engineer Tiong King Wei.

My comments:
I hope this time they will not prove again in the game called Carte Blanche Cheque in the doings.

I hope this time they will prove themselves in terms of quality and time to complete the work.

I hope the work presented to be well-done, not longer the shoddy work to fool the rural folk.

I hope I will go around Bawang Assan one day to see how well the promised works got done.

The BN leaders should prove themselves not  swindlers to regain the confidence of the people in general.

No, the leaders of the opposition pact have not proved themselves so united and good but they are still a good alternative to flush out 90% rotten ones in the BN pact.  We are prepared to choose the better ones.
