The road conditions and system 13Jan2013
How
well / poorly the BN government perform in the following public sectors should be the criteria key factors to access
them. As people we have to know the
private developments and public developments are two different things though
the government policies can affect the private developments adversely. But here let’s investigate and study the
public developments to access and evaluate our BN government ruling 56 years at
federal level and ?? years at the state level.
In Sarawak, it is
50 years. So, it is 56-50, it seems so
stable and conducive for development. However,
this stability and conduciveness fall short in terms of quality and it is also
lack of the practice of democracy. It is
well-marked with severe corruption and collusion in every aspect you can name. The whole system of government practices is
more inclined to autocracy for the good and benefits of the few who wield the power. So we only witness the few have become
mega-wealthy at the expense of the mass.
The
criteria key areas of the public sectors to access are: the road conditions and system, public
transport, cost of living, job opportunities, medical services, housing
conditions and the prices of the house, education and school facilities,
security (high crime rate), management of resources (to benefit majority, not
the privileged crowned few), fishing industry,
food security and cleanliness, water and electricity supplies and other
infrastructures.
Here let’s discuss the road conditions and
system everywhere in Sarawak.
A good road system like a good system of
democracy is constructed to facilitate and benefit people / road users. Good road system and conditions also reflect
a good system of government. Who is not upset with the road conditions in Sarawak?
Stand out to tell us. Let’s grade
our road conditions into 5 bands: A (80%-100%); B (60% - 79%); C (40% - 59%); D
(20% - 39%) and E (0% - 19%).
The
roads in Grade A bracket should have the right width to cater heavy-duty vehicles
and are tar-sealed properly. They have
the well-built drains on both sides. They
also have motorcyclist lanes along side, knowing that high % of our road users
are motorcyclists. Don’t turn blind eyes
to this hard fact. Count how many
kilometres of road in Sarawak are in this category.
The roads in Grade
B bracket also have the right width and tar-sealed properly. They also have the well-built drains on both
sides but they don’t have motorcyclist lanes alongside.
The roads in Grade
C bracket, well, do not have the right width and are tar-sealed. But they only have a drain on one side. The roads in Grade D bracket do not have the
right width but are tar-sealed. You can
hardly find the drain on either side of the roads. The roads in Grade E bracket do not have the
width and are not tar-sealed. They have
no drains at all. The roads in Grade E
category turn muddy during rainy seasons.
I wonder what the width of the roads is in general in Sarawak?
Now
let’s grade the roads in Sarawak. What grades of road are you using? What % can you give for each grade of the
road conditions in Sarawak? Well, based
on personal observations, experiences and informal studies through my glances
on the reports in the mass media of the road conditions, there are only 20% for
the roads in Grade C bracket; 60% in Grade D bracket and 20% in Grade E
bracket. What do you think, my brethren,
young and old, male and female?
Please
refer the few reports of road conditions in the Borneo Post to view if you don’t
have much ideas. Here we go: ‘Narrow road deters travellers from making a
stop at Sri Aman’ (Thursday, 10Jan2013. Home. Pg.10 ) Imagine the congestion and traffic jam and
time-waste when the two-lane road fails to fulfil the function to ensure the
smooth flow of the traffic. On the same
page, you can also find “Sungai Moyan Road in urgent need of repair” which is
about 1.8km long in Kuching which has been in a dismal state for almost a year despite
the plead and complaints. Again on the
same page, you will see “Residents want to know why road tarring not finished” It is about ‘spotty-dotty’ work done so much to the frustration
and exasperation of the people there.
On
the report “Residents want road to be widened” (Friday, 11Jan2013. Home Pg13),
you will find how fast and often the narrow road kills the road users and how
many road users have been involved in the fatal road accidents. I think we people should chain the neck of Michael Manyin
and Yong Khoon Seng to pull them here and there to witness the road
conditions. We should make them kneel
down to say sorry especially Michael Manyin who always pointed finger at road
users for causing 60% of fatal road
accidents. He never sees how Grade C and
D road conditions cause the 80% of fatal road accidents. What a damned fool we elected!
Do
we have well-connected road system? Our
friends in Marudi, Lawas, Belaga, ……………. will tell us better how much time they
take to reach the nearest town. I often
wonder why our BN leaders like Fadillah, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, James
Masing, Abang Johari, Wong Soon Koh, Peter Chin, Taib Mahmud………. Still dare to pow-bow and howl so much before us, not knowing how disgusted we feel towards
them.
