Point to
Point (16) Birth
Control
We are in an age when we can take
charge of our lives. How many children
can you afford to have? My advice is to
count the amount of money you have; the number of bedrooms to accommodate; the
quantity and quality of love to bestow and cherish on your children.
I often hear our leaders foster people
to give more births in order to gather more votes in the election or to boost
the economy. What a shame and curse to
hear that the meaning of births is to satisfy someone’s desire or ambition.
Again, I would emphasise that giving
birth is a responsible and planned act in order to ensure well-being and
welfare of an individual. The countries
such as Britain , Australia , American, Germany ,
Japan
and the like which can become rich because the people in these countries
practise family planning. They have few
children. The countries like Indonesia , the Philippiness, Thailand and so on are plighted
with too many unwanted births.
Who can afford to have more than 7
children well-taken care of now? I think
only our rich men in town. They live in
super-sized mansion with numerous bedrooms to accommodate several generations
to live under one roof. They definitely
have enormous amount of money to indulge in, too.
If you live in a detached house, you
many have 4 - 5 children. I think you can manage quite well.
If you live in semi-detached house,
maybe you can have 2 – 3 children to maintain a quality life.
If you live in a terraced house, 1 – 2
children should not pose a problem. But
it may require dual income earner to upkeep.
If you live in a low-cost house with 1
– 2 bedrooms, my advice is to have a child or not at all. A low-cost house is just a little bit better
than a kennel or a coop. It is
definitely not a comfortable living condition.
What is it for to have so many children to cram in such a limited space?
It is meaningless if life is full of
discomfort, suffering and torturing.
Look at the population in China ,
India , Indonesia and the Philippines as a whole. The population in these countries is just too
large to do good to the environment, society and economy (except cheap labour
to take advantage of and large market to harness). As we know that our natural resources is
limited and not replenished, how can our limited resources counteract with the
fast ever increasing rate of human population?
How can a person be happy if he or she has to share food or space meant
for two but 7 – 8 fighting for it.
Be wise and sensible when you decide
how many children to have. Think of the
number of children in term of space, quality and resources you can afford
them. Human lives should not become
cheap and selective. Don’t feel shocked
to hear people say that human lives in China ,
India , Indonesia and the Philippines are very cheap and
low. Don’t feel offended to hear that
the family with too many children is difficult to enjoy happy and comfortable
life in term of quality of food, accommodation, education, parental attention
and love.
Remember it is not your responsibility
to provide cheap labour for rich men. It
is not their birthright to enjoy cheap labour, either.
A poor family become poorer with many
children to feed. Similarly a poor
nation become worse with ever increasingly larger population. This is the reason why China has been forced to adopt
one-child policy.
Think of how much rubbish each
individual produces daily. Calculate how
heavy the toll our environment has to endure with fast and ever-increasing rate
of population.
How can a person be happy and
contented in an environment where air, water, noise and food are heavily
polluted and contaminated?
What loss does it cause to the Jews to
be so few in number to a family, a nation and the whole human race?
Many Chinese leaders (buon tyen soh
kuong) indulge in the belief that more births in the Chinese race will help to
increase the number of Chinese candidates to win in the election. They believe in that the Chinese will cast
the votes for the Chinese candidates. Is
this true? Now Samy Vellu also
encouraged Indians to give more births.
Alamat! What a shame! What a curse!
These leaders should first work out “a birth package” like Australia
to encourage births. Otherwise, it is
hard not to be condemned for their slippery tongue.
In a truly democratic and civilised
society where people are well-educated and mature, they only cast their votes
to select the truly qualified leaders regardless of their race, creed and
religion.
In conclusion, i still insist on the
fact that giving birth is a responsible and planned act of a couple in a
family. Every life should be precious
and should deserve clean and decent micro and macro living conditions. What do you think?
