Hou----------bilibala------------hou,
which medium of instruction is better, English or Chinese for Chinese primary
schools?The grown-ups always have a lot
to haggle and fight over their ‘fuddy-duddy’ ideas over education.Ask yourselves how much you know about
education.Ask yourselves how
children-friendly the education you propose is.
The ones who favour
coffee insist the beverage to be the most wonderful whereas the other ones who
enjoy tea want to prove as much.Well---------------- no force on the children, please.Ask the children to decide:they will tell you they like fruit juice
best! However, we can’t let them to have
a particular fruit juice they are addicted though we can give a little
more.
As good, kind,
reasonable, progressive, understanding and children-friendly adults, we should
provide the variety. It is the variety
that help them to get all the nutrients they need to stay in good health and
enjoy a happy and healthy life.
Now, for Chinese primary
schools, do the survey and find out the truth and facts how well the children
can understand and enjoy Mathematics and Science in English. Now the question is if they have the English
background to understand or not!If they
have only spoken dialects or Chinese since small, I advise you for the sake of
the children’s benefits, not your adults’ ideal and ideas, to force them to
learn Mathematics and Science in English. Can you understand me???
English is a very useful
tool in the international scene.We
definitely need to master this language besides Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia
if we want to win at ease in this global environment. To master the language, we have to put in
enough effort to learn.Think of better
ways to learn English during English periods.Increasing English periods should be a way to force learning
intensively.Finding means and ways to
encourage them read English books of different genres extensively, newspapers
and magazines is definitely a must in order to acquire a rich stock of
vocabulary and knowledge.To use English
freely, we need good foundation of the language, so good grasp of all the
grammatical rules is essential.But
learning English is not learning the grammar alone. We should allocate time for learning the
grammar. At the same time, we should
read widely to amass English words and knowledge. Our ability to listen, speak, read and
writeEnglish well depends on grammar,
vocabulary, knowledge as well as experience.
To conclude my points of
view, I would suggest that Chinese primary schools use CHINESE to teach Mathematics
and Science. If you see no harm trying,
let the children have Mathematics and Science in both Chinese and English
versions but insist to have them explained in CHINESE
It is not difficult for
anyone to conserve energy as long as the ‘pain’ of payment is there to
feel. Therefore, it is easy for an
individual to conserve energy because every unit in ampere is counted. Thus, I don’t see people in general switch on
lights at home during the day. We have
this good habit at home.
In small shops, as I
observe around the Sibu town, the shop owner knows only too well the amount of
fluorescent lighting to use to call ’sufficient’. They hate to waste electricity as they abhore
to waste money. It is not easy to earn
money in the keen competitive environment.
In medium shops, they
know how to conserve energy too though their lighting is 20-30% more. They want to outshine their products to look
appealing to customers. They endure the
‘pain’ of overlighting.
However, in supermarkets
like Everise, Farley, Ngiu Kee, Tai Kiong, Parkson and so on, their lighting is
100% more or overlighting many times because they are in the position to do
that. They have enough rich customers to
pay these expenses for them. Hence,
their goods on display are dazzlingly bright and attractive to resist. If you are observant enough, you see they
don’t have sunlight from the windows or have no windows. They just can afford air-conditioned system
and artificial lighting. Thanks the
customers. This is a kind of ‘pick
winner’ and the problem of ‘painlessness’ towards energy conservation.
Another place I
experience this ‘painlessness’ to the electricity wastage is the Sibu Central
Market. If you are alert enough, you see
how wasteful it is! You will be shocked
to see that more than half of fluorescent lights are switched on without good
reasons. If it is the One-switch that
turns on all the fluorescent lights, I think they should consider the
amendments to justify the situation.
Switch off wherever and whenever it is not required like how we practise
at home. If you have feelings towards
energy conservation, you will feel exasperated towards the management of the
Sibu Central Market for being so wasteful.
They are so irrresponsible with the taxpayers’ ‘sweat and blood’!
If all the markets and
government departments in Malaysia
were so energy-wasteful like the Sibu Central Market or supermarkets, then what
a huge waste we would create daily.
Alamat! What a curse! What a shame!
In align with our Prime
Minister’s appeal to uphold the virtue of being frugal, let take actions from
today onwards to make amendments or adjustments to lighting system and make
full use of ‘adorable’ sunlight wherever and whenever we can. Please avoid creating ‘autumn or winter’ in
the building. Learn to enjoy the
tropical breeze or heat to sweat for our good health.
Samy Vellu said,
“Highways are more deadly.” Now the
question is why highways are more deadly!
I think Samy Vellu should make it accountable. He must find out the causes attributing to
the problems and find possible solutions to solve them. Otherwise, I am afraid road users may, some
day, sue the government for the road accident because of the road conditions.
“However, ......the
statistics did not mean highways in this country were unsafe” he said. (20 November, 2005, The Borneo
Post) Now the question is he did not
tell us how safe the highways in our country are compared with the federal and
state roads.
He just presented some
facts regarding the length of the highways to federal and state roads; recorded
accidents and deaths in different types of roads in comparison.
“He said that the
statistics showed the federal and state roads had been in good condition and safe
for vehicles and this was due to the implementation of short and long term
programmes by PWD to improve road safety.”
This is exactly what should be done to improve and upgrade the highways
to prevent road accidents. Isn’t it not
the road conditions that account for the overall road accidents? Apply all your senses to ponder over these
‘lethal’ problems.
In my opinion, I think
our highways really need as much attention by the PWD to improve and upgrade
road safety.
He also said there had
been RM262 million allocation for the construction of motorcycle lanes. Now the quesiton is how long the motorcycle
lanes have been constructed in relation to the total length of the road and how
much $ allocated have been spent properly and wisely. We want to know these facts.
He also mentioned of
building pedestrian bridges, traffic light crossings, overtaking lanes, paved
road shoulders and road lighting in the programmes. Now the question is if there are adequate
pedestrian bridges, traffic light crossing.............. to help reduce road
accidents. In other words, have the
authorities concerned done enough?
To conclude my points of
view, I can say it for sure that improving road conditions is the most
effective way to reduce road accidents.
Please set up a
committee to study the road conditions and road accidents as well as formulate
the effective measures to implement to curb the problems once and for all.
Remember every life lost
on the road because of the road conditions will bring curse and retribution to
all the decision-makers and contractors who enjoy all the benefits and gain in
the process if you believe the Power of the Lord of this Universe.
Road accidents have become a common scene and almost a daily
occurrence in Malaysia. They have become almost a characteristic
feature in our country. The number of
road accident casualties are extremely high. What are the causes for the
frequent road accidents and high number of fatalities? We have repeated the causes many times
multiply many times already. Now the problem
is why the road users did not learn from the mistakes of others and avoided car
accidents. Another question is why the
authorities concerned cannot effectively reduce car accidents to its possible
minimum level despite wasting so much money, time and energy.
Here I would like to repeat the causes another time. One of the causes is the condition of the
vehicle. It is within the power of the
vehicle owner to keep the vehicle in good condition at all times. Now the question is how many vehicle owners
comply to this rule.
Another cause is the attitude of road users. It is within the control of road users. They should know when to overtake and when
not. They should be clear the speed they
are allowed at different parts of the road.
But some drivers are reckless and selfish. Hence, I believe in the power of the traffic
police to interfere and catch these traffic offenders. Frequent patrolling of the traffic police can
be very effective to prevent these reckless and selfish drivers from
endangering the lives of themselves and other road users.
However, I still insist that the main cause of all is the road conditions. It is the within the power of the authorities
concerned to improve and maintain. Now
the question is how duty-bound and responsible our authorities concerned are to
improve and maintain the road system.
According to Samy Vellu “What went wrong?”, our government have spent
RM224million over the last five years on federal roads to reduce accidents. The government have done so much and much to
improve and maintain the major federal roads, including federal route one and
two!! Now the question is how much our
government have done to improve and maintain the other roads: either municipal
or state. He said, ‘’Of the RM224 million
spent under the Eighth Malaysia Plan, RM 126.7 million was used to used to
build special motorcycle lanes. Along
major federal roads, including federal route one and two.
bilibala...............”
In view of high number of motorcyclist fatalities, he failed to
show us clear pictures and statistics of the related accidents at the places
where there are special motorcyclist lanes and where there are not. Now the question is he did not show us in
statistics in comparison in terms of the
number of fatalities of the motorcyclists before and after the building of the
special motorcycle lanes. He did not
tell us clearly if the special motorcyclist lanes are useful or not. He could not point out to us the clear
picture and statistics of the length of the special motorcycle lanes in ratio
to the total length of the main road system as a whole. Alamat!
What a curse! What a shame! He just ‘bilibala’ on the fragment pieces of
facts to cover up his disabilities to solve the real causes of these ‘fatal’
problems.
He has not evaluated the effectiveness of
the headlight switching on of the motorcyclists in broad daylight since it
started 10 over years ago to prevent or reduce the number of fatalities
involving motorcyclists. Everything he
uttered is too blurred and too general to understand the causes and hence
remedies to solve. Therefore, the
‘fatal’ problems remain as ‘lethal’ year after year.
Now the question is how much and how well the roads are
improved and maintained. Now the
question is how many sharp corners to the total sharp corners have been
straightened to prevent accidents. Now
the question is how many road barriers
have been built so far in terms of the total number of road barriers that are
required to be built in our road system.
In view of the high number of fatalities involving
motorcyclists, I can assure to say that the road system are ‘far off’
motorcycle-users-friendly.
I can say it for sure, there are not enough special motorcyclist lanes
and safety measures to protect them.
Now it is the right, immediate and consistent actions that
count. I would suggest a committee to be
set up to study the causes of each accident and find out the remedial measures
to prevent. Show us the statistics of the places, the road and vehicle
conditions, the driver attitudes and other related causes of road accidents and
effective preventive measures taken.
I agree with the suggestion of someone to install the camera at
those strategic locations to catch the reckless and selfish driver red-handed.
Stationing our traffic police in booths at the strategic
locations and frequent patrolling of our traffic police help too.
Please review the fatalities involving different vehicle users
often enough and meditate in depth and width so that the truth will manifest
itself. According to the recent report
of road fatalities during the dual festivals of Deepavalli and Hari Raya Puasa
(15 November, 2005,
the See Hua Daily News), 141 cases out of the total 233 road fatalities are the
motorcyclists !!!!!!!!!!! Look! 60.3% of
the road fatalities involving the motorcyclists. Now I think what Samy Vellu should ponder and
meditate is how to reduce road fatalities involving the motorcycle users. He should learn to be more goal and target
oriented to achieve the desirable results.
If the government can reduce the road fatalities involving
motorcyclists, they can solve the real ‘lethal’ problems once and for all. I still assert that our road system and
policies must be motorcycle-users friendly to solve these ‘fatal’ problems.
The Sibu Central Market
is beautiful, magnificent and commanding in every way. However, the lack of energy conservation
consciousness and the greed of the lights installation contractor as well as
the negligence of the authority concerned to oversee the work are just plain
enough to every civic-minded citizen.
Do you have better
reasons to tell us why there are so many fluorescents lights installed along
the driveway? Tell us why the lights are
switched on when the sunlight is many times brighter than the artificial light. You may say at night these fluorescent lights
are required. Think over it: Do we really need so many fluorescent lights
along the way? After all, do the drivers
also switch on the car lamps while driving at night?
Do you have better
reasons to tell us why there are so many fluorescent lights installed on each
floor? Tell us why the fluorescent
lights are switched on where there is sufficient sunlight all along the sides
of the parking lots.
Do you have better
reasons to tell us why there are so many fluorescent lights and why they are
installed so far above on the ground floor?
Tell us why the fluorescent lights are not installed just 10 feet above
the floor so that we do not need so many fluorescent lights. We also don’t need to cause unnecessary
energy wastage!
Do you still have the
records of the cost of each fluorescent lamp and installation? Did you think that our Sibu Central Market in
fact only needs about half the number of the fluorescent lamps?
Find out how frustrated
we, taxpayers feel to think of the fact that the hard earned money is so wasted
through this irrational energy wastage and payment for unnecessary
installation.
Try to understand how
exasperatingly, we, taxpayers endure when the authorities concerned does not
take actions to remedy the situations and let the problem of energy wastage
continue.
Be empathetic enough to
sense how desperately, we , taxpayers tolerate when the authorities concerned
shirk their responsibilities to improve the conditions through cautious management
and avoid unnecessary wastage.
Be sensitive enough to
know how agitated, we, taxpayers, are when we are asked to pay more and more
taxes and we have to face price hiking in every item.
Be wise enough to think
how agitatedly, we, taxpayers, undergo daily
when the authorities concerned are lackadaisical in their
approach.
Remember not to take
people for granted. Please be attentive
to our complaints or suggestions with due care.
The Sibu Central Market is
beautiful, magnificent and commanding in every way. However, there are just too many fluorescent
lights to feel it right. The awareness
of energy conservation of the lights installation contractor is near to
nil. What a shame!
The Sibu Central Market is
but a market for business transactions.
The items for sale are big enough to see and even for detailed
examination in the broad daylight. People
don’t come here for reading. Therefore,
we don’t need so many dazzling and glaring strong lights.
The fluorescent lights along
the driveway are useless because the sunlight there is many times brighter than
the artificial lights. I only see the
greed and ignorance of the light installation contractor here especially and
the negligence of the authority concerned to oversee the work.
The Sibu Central Market is
but a market for business transactions not a centre for reading the printed
words. Hence, strong lighting is
definitely not required at all. Besides,
fluorescent lights are also not necessary at all at the places where there is
enough sunlight.
Good gracious! The stallholders or tax payers are just
helpless to many types of taxes to pay.
They are just ignorant as helpless that the taxes they paid are often so
wasted through the unnecessary fluorescent lights and electricity currents as
well as poor management. Moreover, they
are unaware that they have the ‘artificial light bask’. I wonder whether they believe that too much
‘artificial light bask’ can cause ‘cataract’ and affect an individual
‘biological clock’ in the long run.
The artificial light is very
useful at night and for dark places.
Alamat, how we abuse the artificial light during the daytime. Wake up to the law of nature. We have sunlight during the day, so say ‘No!’
to the artificial light. Make use of the
sunlight wherever and whenever we can.
Think over it: How many artificial lights does the Sibu Central
Market need and how bright should the
Sibu Central Market be during the daytime?
How many artificial lights does the Sibu Central Market need and how bright should the Sibu Central Market
be at night?
The Ruling Party and the Opposition Parties are different. They are very different in terms of
designation, position, and authority in the duties and responsibilities. The Ruling Party is entrusted with the duties
and responsibilities to govern the country at their disposal. Therefore, they should rule the nation to the
very best they can. The Opposition
Parties are but just the watchdogs to consider and to take heed of. Hence, the Ruling Party ought to understand
their roles and responsibilities well.
They must know how to distinguish right from wrong.
Neglecting their roles and responsibilities
and failing to demarcate the boundary of right from wrong are the main causes
of rampant state of corruption and collusion in the country. It is like a rotten apple and more akin to a
malignant cancer spreading. We plead for
overhauling and reforming of the system or I am afraid the Ruling Party is
subjected to the total collapse and downfall in the course of time sooner or
later. The one-party rule era of
Kuomintang in Taiwan
is a good example for us to refer to. Indonesia and the Philippines are another two models
for us to study. Be alert!
Hence don’t condemn the Opposition Parties for “Words more than
Actions.” and “Barking a lot of
rubbish.” Remember what the people want
is the Ruling Party to carry out the duties efficiently and effectively well
and not to bark back as much. You are
not the watchdog to do so.
Don’t fly into a rage when the Opposition Parties pinpoint out
the cases of corruption and collusion in the country. Don’t act blind to the rampant and acute
state of corruption and collusion in the country. What the people want is that Ruling Party
(RP) must implement the stringent measures to keep strict record of all the
transactions of tax revenues and be transparent in the account of the
allocation funds for development to prevent any foul play. If possible, disclose the wealth of any ministers
or officials of high ranking for scrutiny or cross examination.
Don’t feel agitated when the Opposition Parties (OPs) sneer at
the RP being incapable in dealing with the problems of floods. Act promptly to show your ability to salvage
the people from the torture of floods.
Not to say, this is the duties and responsibilities of the
government. People want the tangible and
concrete show of your abilities in solving the problems of floods. We don’t want to hear you blowing your own
trumpet again and again as well as giving vain promises. Don’t let us assess you as a mentally
retarded to be so incapable. Don’t
impress us to see you know only how to cut ribbons, beam nicely to receive
gifts and indulge in parties.
Don’t panic when OPs criticise that the Government GeneralHospital
is not well managed and well-kept. Act
now to improve. Don’t lose the status of
the Government GeneralHospital to the Private
hospitals. The RP should view the
people’s preference and favour for the Private hospitals as a defiance and
humiliation to the image, capacity and authority of RP. Don’t let the people have the chance to poke
fun at the RP saying, “Sibu is a small town but the private hospitals and
clinics are many times more than enough.”
One of the ministers even took pride in the redundant number of the
private hospitals and clinics to day-dreamily say, “ We can turn Sibu into a
medical centre some day.” Goodness
me! Please help to improve the
conditions and raise the standard of the Government General Hospital (GGH)
first.
We should discourage, if possible, reduce
the number of private hospital and clinics to avoid competition so as to protect the people in general. Here is a story to share. I have a friend in Kuching. Her boyfriend suffered from a heart
attack. Without a second thought, she
sent him to a private hospital in Kuching for treatment. However,
his condition was just so serious that he needed a special equipment and care
to sustain his life. My friend was not
in the position to pay for the heavy
expenses to let him stay on in the
private hospital, either. Then, she
needed to transfer him to the GGH.
Fortunately or unfortunately, I don’t know,
the man died the following day. I show
this example is to let the RP know that why we don’t want to see more private
hospitals and clinics blooming in Sibu and other places.) We want our government to offer the best
possible medical service to make us
appreciate and sense your effort and capacity.
We want the concrete and tangible things to appreciate and to take pride
in. Avoid blowing your own trumpet
anymore. Don’t make people feel detested
and disgusted again and again.
Don’t feel impatient when the OPs mention the Issue of Education
repeatedly. Do introspect, examine, and
find out all the weaknesses, defects and shortcomings of our education system
and policies in order to improve and progress.
Don’t oppress and suppress different opinions anymore. The TwinTowers
and Putra Jaya are magnificently commanding, noble and splendid. But the fall of Mr Chen to death in a Chinese
Primary School as a result of the rotten floor caused by termites has shown us
such a sarcastically contrast of luxurious buildings and the poor Chinese primary
school buildings in general.
Alamat! What a curse! What a shame!
The falling death of Mr Chen shows the living example of the plush
buildings that are erected at the expense of many Chinese primary school buildings. Tell me why the Chinese primary schools have
been facing the problems of lacking of space, classrooms and qualified teachers
since our independence day. So, don’t
blame them to bring up the issue again and again because it has not been
properly dealt with. Have you tried your
best? Have you used the tax revenues
fairly and justly? We want tangible and
concrete evidences and examples of fairness and justice. We can’t tolerate ‘bilibala’ noise of
fairness and justice in abstract anymore.
It is wonderful to hear some ministers moot the idea of turning Malaysia into
an education centre. Now the question is
what we should do to improve and raise the standards of our existing primary,
secondary and tertiary education to the qualified levels to compete. Now the question is how we can reform and
overhaul our current education system and policies for a more comprehensive,
holistic and reliable one.
Don’t feel upset when the OPs accused the ministers in the RP to
indulge in ‘money politics’. They used
money to buy votes to become ministers.
You let Anti-Corruption Agency investigate and find out the truth. You don’t have to bare your teeth to deny.
When Mr Lim Kit Siang demanded Rafidah to resign to justify her
abuse of power. She did not have to
curse Mr Lim Kit Siang like that. If she
were really honest and innocent, she should keep cool and explained ‘APs’
calmly to dumb Mr Lim and pacify the people in general.
Don’t hate the OPs when they tell you the truth of wastage. Learn to be frugal. According to a daily newspaper report, there
were 17 government departments overspending the allocation. Alamat!
Too much! ‘Waste not, Want
not.’ No wonder tax is imposed on almost
everything. Overspending through wastage,
carelessness and corruption is really
abhorrent. How much longer could the
people tolerate the abuse and negligence of the RP? Our neighbour, the Philippines should serve a good
example of how tolerate the people could be and rebellious could turn out to be
once they broke loose the line of toleration. 5
Don’t react so ignorantly when the OPs depict the rampant state
of corruption and collusion of the government like a malignant cancer. Act fast to formulate policies to eliminate
conducive opportunities to corruption and collusion.
When the OPs talk about the unfairness and injustice the
government treating the Chinese primary schools, don’t argue anymore but give concrete and
tangible examples and evidences to prove.
Don’t ‘bilibala’ blindly to say how just and fair the government has
been. Malaysia is 48 years old. The words and actions must be in accord to a
48-year-old person. It is important to
know the difference between the tangible and intangible or pure imagination.
Don’t feel frustrated when
the OPs remind so often the relationship of ‘master and servant’ in the democratic rule. Lean to play the role of servants to serve
the people. Otherwise, I am afraid you
have to face disgrace and embarrassment in time to come.
Don’t act aggressive to the
OPs when they sneer at the RP to know how to act to win the hearts of the
people: make a big show of development
when the election day approaches. They
build bridges, pave the roads, extend the water and electricity supplies and
build other infrastructure facilities.
After all, the majority of the people do not know that providing the
basic needs are the responsibilities of RP.
They are blurred to the purpose of taxation. Well, don’t rebut but show to the people what
you have been doing all the time. Try
your best, work hard and improve yourselves, that is. Don’t give the OPs parties any chance to
catch you red-handed.
Ignore the OPs when they
laugh at the ministers of the RP to enjoy talking on ‘gratitude’ and
‘sacrifice’. But I think you should
consider ‘win-win’ to be more practical and think of ‘terms of contract’ to be
more applicable and fascinating.
In conclusion, I see it
feasible that the RP needs the OPs to pinpoint out the weaknesses, defects, and
shortcomings to change, to adjust and improve.
Failing to do so, you only assist the OPs to become stronger and
stronger and to overthrow you some day.
This is the best interaction between the RP and OPs. Absolute authority is destined and subjected
to absolute degradation and breakdown.
In the democratic system, fairness and justice should be the dominating
factors to determine and progress for the best ‘servant’ to emerge to lead.
