On behalf of the deceased Ling Tong Hock, the victim of the brutal killing at Lane 13, RTM road, I plead you not to drop the case but think of every possible way to sue SMC for their abuse of power and the unscrupulous developer for breaching the agreement to build the house according to the specifications. We, Sibuans 99% want DAP to act on our behalf to bring SMC and the concerned developer to court for the gruesome happening.
The gruesome tragedy took place on the 3rd January, 2012 at Lane 13, RTM road was due to the malpractice of Tiong Thai King, the chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).He is also holding so many posts like a superman.
Due to the malpractice of Tiong Thai King, hence the said developer could go ahead to apply for water and electricity supply for the terraced houses at Lane 13, RTM road. The house buyers from unit 6 to 10 did not have the firebreak wall to the date when the tragedy happened. They just fell victims to this unscrupulous developer who had applied the water and electricity for them. However, Tiong Thai King, the chairman just played blind to these illegal house occupants.I do not know how many house owners in Sibu are without occupation permits.
It the firebreak walls had been done properly at Lane 13, RTM road, this brutal killing could have been avoided.
I hope DAP-PR will help the deceased Ling Tong Hock sue SMC and that unscrupulous developer for RM ONE MILLION (RM1, 000,000) to be paid to his son Kelvin Ling who has survived from the attack and his stepmother who is said to be expecting a baby.We want to see Justice be upheld at all cost.
The municipal council will not issue occupation permits (OP) for building that are not built according to their construction plans, said the council’s deputy chairman Daniel Ngieng Kiong Ann in a press conference here yesterday.(11th Wednesday, January, 2012.P.4 Home, The Borneo Post)
Well……… did SMC know that at least 10% (according to somebody’s guesses or may be more) occupy their houses illegally without occupation permits to date?
But…… how come without Ops, the house occupants were allowed water and electricity supply from SESCO and Water Board illegally? This is the question we Sibuans want to know.I wonder how coordinated SMC, SESCOand Water Board are in the process. It appear so sneaky, too.I wonder if there is again due to corruption and collusion between SMC-SESCO and Water Board in the operation.
It is true that Ops have not been issued for 5 houses in the row of terraced houses at Lane 13, RTM road when 4 members of a family were brutally killed on Jan 3.
“In fact, there has been no application for the permit, ” he said, adding that a few other blocks in the neighbourhood were also without Ops.
But ………how come SMC did not take any action at all before 3rd Jan. 2012 knowing that these people occupied the houses illegally though they all paid the assessment fees promptly?Tell us!House occupants may play ignorant but SMC should not follow suit!
It is true that the 17-year-old boy due to the lacking of firebreak wall that enabled him to make an easy access and sneaked through the attic easily and entered the square-opening in the bathroom upstairs of the Unit 8 in the row of the 10 houses committed the crime.
On the 3rd Jan. killing, he said it was not right to put the blame on the absence of firebreak walls in the attic
But…….very very…. Sibuans think that SMC, being the manager of the Sibu town, not wrong! Our argument is, I repeat, how come without Ops, the house occupants were allowed to apply for electricity supply from SESCO and water from Water Board illegally?Be more organized, SMC and learn to be more accountable.
Meanwhile, SMC Building Control and Town Beautification standing committee member Robert Lau said house purchasers had the right to demand the developer or contractor to build the firebreak walls if their houses were found not having one
Well……SMC should have checked first to ensure that this partition in the attic is done properly before the issuing of the Ops and then the house occupants may apply for water and electricity supply. You, bloody fools, understand?Be more organised and responsible.
Proper partition of the house from bottom to the top is a must by law but how come no partition of the attic just happened again and again before 3rd Jan. 2012 in Sibu.I wonder how many % of Sibuans knew about it before this gruesome happening? It is really damned fools to expect house purchasers to climb up to check.Who in Sibu had thought of checking this partition or had knowledge of it?I only came to know about it in this incidence.Applying for occupation permits, is it not the business of SMC and the developers?Alamak! What a curse! What a pity! What a shame!
“It is a social issue.Maybe a parenting problem or someone is just born sick, “ he said.
It is bloody and irresponsible to say like that.Since nobody is born to become corrupt like our BN political thugs, I believe nobody is just born so sick to kill.Corruption and collusion is so rampant in Malaysia because we have the conducive environment to do so as our 3 pillars of democracy are not aligned properly.Hence I see Khir Toyo who stole millions and abused his power so much during his tenure as …… in Selangor was sentenced to 12 months in jail only though his palace-like house is confiscated to date. But I see another case of theft that the man stole an oven but was subjected to 12 months’ jail, too. Thus, I wonder what kind of Justice we have in Malaysia.
Many people like me know the boy killed because he was discovered for trespassing and fearful of the consequences and thus resorted to killing in order to cover up his misbehavior. It is not a planned killing / murder. It is the spur of the moment. How come Daniel Ngieng, our deputy chairman of SMC, being so illogic and irrational to put the blame on parenting and the culprit.
Based on my analysis, the culprit, had not been rightfully occupied all the time.He did not have right vocation and mental occupation to lead a happy and normal life.I believe he is a very daring and intelligent boy but……….he has not been guided and helped properly by parents and society as a whole.Parenting may be a problem. But our psychological and social environment have become so deteriorated that many happenings to the teenagers are beyond the power of the parents to take reign.Just take the cases of bullying in school for an example, look, we young and old, all witness how Dr. M bullied Anwar, how Najib and Muhyiddin and other BN political thugs condemn Anwar and other PR leaders through various mass media at will.
Well, this gruesome killing should have taught every Sibuan a very good lesson: Never trust SMC and the BN government anymore. We people collectively bottom-up should be more responsible for everything that concerns us and our environment, be it physical, psychological and social.
I hope that the chairman and the deputy chairman will be more responsible and organised.Avoid making the same mistakes again or we will have to face the people we collectively will chant up to step down:
Damned fool! Damned fool! Tiong Thai King, the chairman of SMC!Step down!Step down! You step down. You damned fool are not qualified to rule Sibu.
Damned fool! Damned fool! Daniel Ngieng, the deputy chairman of SMC! Step down!Step down! You step down. You, damned fool, are not qualified to rule Sibu.
For the house occupants without Ops at Lane 13, RTM road, I hope these house owners collectively take action to sue the contractors / developer for their irresponsibility. You may condemn SMC, too for playing ignorant and innocent!
It is no miracle that Sibu a low-lying area is flood-free now.We have ? pumps and watergates in operation.Sibu becoming flood-free is like a dream coming true after being plighted with floods for many times a year for so long. Sometimes even many times in a month for the past 16 -18 years.Personally, I experienced floods up to the knees when I was small during the rainy season once a year. From 199? – 2009, I experienced and also witnessed, the floods ranging from 1 foot to 3 or 4 feet inundating almost everywhere in Sibu when the heavy rain matched up with the king tide and the downpour upstream. We experienced flash floods so frequently, too .
We had a lot of rain in December, 2011,but Sibu remained dry.Even Jalan Hua Kiew and Melian Lane which were considered most flood-prone are now flood-free.We are not flood expect by training but we Sibuans came to know the causes of floods through years of personal experiences, observations and enlightenment.I personally had the experience of flooded bathroom and came to the enlightenment. My chance to live in the high area in Kuching in 2002 -2003 when there were heavy floods. There I realized an important fact of water which forever and ever flows downwards. But for the water to be discharged properly, a proper drainage system is the answer.I experienced and witnessed heavy floods up to the waist when I was residing at Jalan Tong Sang which was so prone to floods.I lived there from 1990 – June 2002.
When I studied floods, I also paid great attention to the words and actions of all our BN leaders, especially SUPP leaders. My mind was so focused on floods that I discovered more and more the meaning of democracy. Then I realised how abusive the BN political thugs and how corrupt they were. Besides I also saw the importance of individual participation in upholding democracy.I found that how irresponsible and ignorant the people in general were to exercise their rights. The floods we faced actually were the consequences of our problems being irresponsible and ignorant. We were irresponsible because we let our political thug abuse their power. We elected the same persons all the time through the dealing of vote buying and selling .It was ignorant because we did not know our rights.
The harsh experience of floods brought so much enlightenment on democracy to me.I see that the democratic formof government like the road exists to facilitate people in general, not to the core ring/circle of the BN leaders and the privileged lot.But I noticed these people enjoyed life at the expense of the mass.Since then, I have taken it my mission to wake up people to their rights and responsibility to uphold democracy.
When I saw floods at various places in Sarawak in December, 2011, I was very angry.Based on the information I obtained from two versions of newspapers, I found that 99.9% of the flood affected areas such as Machan, Julau, Sri Aman, Lundu, Samariang, ……..were irrigated by the overflowing Rejang River or its tributaries as the water was Teh-Tarik in colour. It is the characteristic colour of the Rejang River due to heavy soil erosion at the upper reaches. So far only the water at the flooded areas at Sadong Jaya was Kopi-O in colour. That means the water was from the
Sadong Jaya itself as it was heavily tainted with peat soil.
I hope these flood affected victims will assert themselves properly and demand for the losses in full amount. As the BN government led by Taib Mahmud and his cronies should hold full responsibility and accountability for the proper drainage system in Sarawak knowing that Sarawak is an area full of rain especially during the rain season. They have done too little to improve the drainage system in whole-wide Sarawak. They only put up a lot of shows in evacuation which can be avoided if they have carried out enough work of prevention (better than cure). That means to build proper drainage everywhere in Sarawak.
I wonder if the flood affected victims know whom they should point the gun to for the menace of floods.I don’t know whether they would be so ignorant to blame the heavy downpour upstream and the overflowing Rejang River not knowing that Taib Mahmud and his cronies, the demons have destroyed the water catchment areas at the upper reaches. They have contracted out thousands and millions of hectares of land for indiscriminate logging for different economic activities legally permitted by these demons.Taib Mahmud especially has gained so much ill-gotten wealth in the transactions.People say he is the richest man in Malaysia through all kinds of abuses of power.Flood woes we endure are actually the evil acts of Taib Mahmud and his cronies. All these demons enjoy life at our expense.
When a large part of land at the upper reaches are stripped bare, the heavy downpour just rains off the topmost soil and flows really fast downhill. The soil erosion also causes siltation at different parts of the river. The heavy downpour at the upper reaches accompanied by the king tide and the heavy rain at the local area with improper drainage no doubt can result in heavy floods as experienced by various places in Sarawak.
There are 3 basic steps to curb floods permanently. One way to curb floods is to prevent Taib Mahmud and his cronies to abuse their power further.Every individual should hold more responsibility to monitor the economic activities upstream for the long-term solution to floods. In other words, we should protect, conserve and preserve our environment, especially at the upper reaches.
Another way to curb floods is to make sure that the drains at your areas can discharge water properly. To prevent flash floods, it is important to ensure that the drains are properly constructed with the concrete wall and are deep and wide enough for the smooth flow to the rivers, sea and ocean.Every individual should take drainage in your residential areas seriously. You should insist proper drainage and having the proper drains is your right.
Abang Johari barked saying that some flood affected areas had no proper drainage because the developers did not follow the specifications to build the drains.Wei…………….in the first place, how could the authorities concerned let the developers who intentionally ignore the construction of drains????When the developers fail to construct, you as residents should bring the matter to the attention immediately.
I really think that each municipal council should be responsible for the drains on both sides of municipal roads; the state government for the drains on both sides of the state roads and the federal government for the drains on both sides of the federal roads. To expect proper constructed concrete drains for a good system of drainage in each area, we require these authorities concerned to hold responsibility and accountability.
What I witness now is that these authorities concerned just push this responsibility to the developers.I see the serious problems of this even the main public roads are not having proper concrete drains deep and wide enough on both sides. When the main public roads are not having proper drains, they are bound to collapse at any time when there is soil erosion taking place on a massive scale.Hence we often witness the Pan Borneo Highway collapse during the rainy season. The recent one just occurred in December, 2011.I wonder which government linked company built the road.Damn it for such a lousy road system without proper drains on the sides.
When the drains can flow faster than the amount of rainfall, where on earth do we have floods?
Emulate the flood mitigation in the Sibu ways.It is to have enough pumps and water-gates to regulate the water level. We have had 9 water pumps and ? water-gates in operation lately and hence the Sibu town area is no longer flooding like before.
The 3rd step to curb floods is to built enough reservoirs to keep excess water. There are many advantages of these reservoirs as they help keep excess water and thus regulate the water flow. The water kept in the reservoirs can be used during the dry seasons for farm irrigation and other purposes.
Besides our government can encourage each house to buy one and given one the tank capable of filling 500 – 1000 litres of water. This is also a good way to reserve the water for different domestic purposes and help mitigate floods to a certain extent.Personally, I have started tank keeping rainwater from the united roofing from my chicken coops and find that I can have the tanks with the capacity of 80 -100 litres filled full up in less than an hour for a heavy rain.
If every house can keep 1000 litres to 2000 litres of rainwater from the rooftop, what an amount we can hold.I hope we would not pose a threat to our water board in this effort.
If you think like fools, act like fools and behave like fools, you will be treated as fools. For years we Sibuans (the Sibu people) thought like fools, acted like fools, behaved like fools and treated like fools by SUPP-BN political thugs as far as floods were concerned. Sibu is a low-lying area and they attributed it to be the cause of floods since Sarawak jointed the federation.
From 1990s until 2009, we often had flash floods here and there and receded in a few hours when it rained. We had medium floods that covered 50% of Sibu whenever there was heavy rain and king tides and they might took a day or two to recede. We had heavy floods that inundated almost everywhere and reaching up to 3 to 5 feet whenever there were lots of rain in Sibu matching up with king tides and heavy downpour upstream. They might took 3-5 days to subside. We had floods of different natures many times a year and even many times in a month.
Before 1990s, we had floods once a year usually at end of the year when there were lots of rain. We fools took it for granted that it was a natural phenomenon due to the low-lying location of Sibu. So no political thugs cared to deal with the problem. No fools in Sibu thought about the possibility of solving the woes of floods then. We fools relied and trusted our leaders so much so that we were more or less oblivious about our rights and responsibility as an individual. We fools never thought that solving woes of floods bottom-up until after 1990s when the floods were so frequent that we fools were awakened and became enlightened. We realised that it was impossible to rely on these cunning, mean and vulture-like political thugs to solve the problems.
They only enjoyed showing up themselves in floods to show how much they cared to fish votes in water. They enjoyed the shows so much so that without realising that we fools had become wise through years of unresolved woes of floods. We collectively studied, investigated, observed, gossiped, discussed and condemned these political thugs. Then we collectively came to the full realisation and enlightenment of floods. We collectively knew how to deal with the woes of floods. We requested, pleaded, suggested, recommended, then screamed and shelled them for their inaction and inability.
We realised that they were only capable of bluffing and boasting and locking horns with the opposition party. They advertised themselves through various mass media. They failed to prove themselves in actions. We then became more mind-focused and discovered even more how aggressive and abusive political thugs were. We realised that they were spoilt rotten by us, the fools. We fools elected these political thugs all the time to fool us. We fools were to be blamed for the woes of floods.
We became wise in the process of floods so frequently that we people relayed and decided to flush them out. Hence we flushed out 6 SUPP-BN political thugs in 2004, we rejected them on 20May 2009 by-election, we flushed out even more of them on 16 April, 2010 and ……….
I repeated the history of floods in Sibu because I want the fools to realise how foolish you are if you are the victims of repeated floods in ever heavily than ever before since independence of Malaysis. Well, do you see the familiar actions of the political thugs rushing to the scenes of floods to help you to clean the mess like Shahrizat, the minister of ……… (woman whose family conned us in the business of cattle)? In the latest floods, I saw her holding the bloom to clean up the mess aftermath of floods with a family. I remind you fools not to be touched for the actions. She should be condemned for the inaction to moot the construction of flood mitigation infrastructure like us in Sibu in the constituency because you fools are treated like fools.
Did you notice that now floods are repeated in areas where most so called “privileged ones ” live? I often wonder how come these so called ‘privileged ones’ are so deprived of basic flood mitigation infrastructure and other infrastructures like a good road system to travel where they like easily, the water and electricity, easy access to good medical services………. Do you agree with me that you are fooled since time immemorial? You are privileged in words only because they need the fools like you to get votes to stay in power to steal at will. Who has become really so well-off and wealthy without much effort but scribble to sign? Find out, you fools! The woes of flood are more or less resolved in Sibu, why can’t yours? Sibu will be flood-free when the flood mitigation projects have been completed in time to come.
Of course, we have to stop the plundering way of development permitted by our greedy, mean and evil political thugs who scribble to sign for a lot and a lot of cash for themselves to resolve the soil erosion and floods in the long run.
We need enough reservoirs to contain excess water. We people are also expected to tank up 1000-2000 litres of rainwater from our rooftops.
