Burglary + Robbery

                             Burglary + Robbery                              15/12/11
Burglary + robbery have become common occurrences in Sibu, Sarawak and Malaysia.  Sibu was once considered ‘a white area ‘ of crimes but now…….
We witness the robbers involved in the brutal killing of the victims from the various newspaper reports.  They are like demons let loose.   It happened just a month or two ago when some Indonesians killed 3 persons brutally in a village not far from the Sibu town.  The Indonesians were caught soon by the police.
Another case just happened a few weeks ago, also near the Sibu town.  The robbers robbed and hurt the shop operator.  The criminals are still at large.  Two or three days ago, a lady was robbed and brutally killed.  The demons have not been caught yet.
There are more and more cases of burglaries and robberies happening daily everywhere in Sarawak.  We are catching up with the crime rate in Peninsular Malaysia.  We are so far behind Peninsular Malaysia in every aspect of development but as far as the crime rate is concerned, soon I am afraid Sarawak will head all in the crime rate if our government has not acted fast enough to curb them.
14th December, 2011, a burglary took place at about 10.30am in the broad daylight in the other half of the house, next-to-mine.  Ours are semi-detached houses.  I heard ‘clink-clank………..’ sounds, loud and clear.  It was unusual sounds and I rushed to check.  I saw a man trolley a safe to an opening in the fence with 2 other men waiting outside.   I squealed and squeaked and screamed and dashed into the house to call 999 and luckily, someone at the other end answered my call promptly and I told her about the robber at my address.  Then I called my left side neighbour and she rallied the call.  On the left side of my house (position with the door facing the road )  neighbours arrived in about 5 minutes and the police arrived a bit later.  They seemed to have trouble to locate my place and requested me to come out to direct them but I rejected flatly because I was very very scared and I did not think it was appropriate to do so.  I directed them to come eventually.  Then I called the owner whose house was burgled and she could not believe it as her house is close to the road where there are vehicles coming and going so frequently.  Nevertheless, she came home to check for sure.  I think she was shocked through and through.
I read a lot of robbery and burglary cases brutally or not.  But they all appeared remote and unrelated but this burglary happened to my next-door neighbour, imagine and I was alone in the row of three semi-detached houses and I was not sure whether there was anyone in the house in the far end on the left of my house.  The burglars were so professional as they broke in the house so fast and they ran off with an LED television and some money.  They abandoned the safe and sped off in a white Myvi car.
Once again, I feel upset and recall the unhappy and frightening happenings that is near and experienced by me.  A few years ago, a car was driven away from the semi-detached house at the far end on the left side of my house and at that time I was chit-chatting with my sister calling from Australia.  I did not notice it until my neighbour on the immediate left side of my house.  A year or two later, I was robbed when I was having tea with my friends at a coffee shop.  I seldom went out at night.  But that night it was an annual gathering of a few old classmates and I had no choice.  But robbery took place.  I could understand how high was the crime rate in Sibu.
We people really think that the BN government should prove themselves properly in eradicating the criminals and their activities or we people collectively will disprove you in the election.  Believe it or not, you just wait and see.

S.H.A.M.E

                             S.H.A.M.E
A rose is a rose.  A rose by whatever name is smelt as fragrant (Shakespeare).
Corruption is corruption.  Corruption by whatever term, whatever make-up and mark-up is smelt as stinking.  When rotten and idiotic government officers / officials engaged in corruption and collusion, when they paid the goods 100%+, 1000%+, 2000% + more than the market price, the officers !!!! from MACC (Malaysian Anti-corruption and Commission) jumped out to protect them.  I don’t know what Najib thinks about it.  They played ignorant saying that they only paid high prices for the goods and it was not corruption.   Alamak! What a curse! What a pity!  What a shame!
I wonder if they bought the products for themselves using their own money, would they want to pay so much?
MACC, sorrylah, good-for-nothing  in my eye and heart is as dead as ????  It has been rebranded but it remains the same helplessly manipulated by the BN political thugs.  Najib wants transformation  but I see him fail one by one.  We only see him turning round and round for nothing.
It is impossible to transform in deeds as he cannot change the corrupt BN ministers for clean ones.  It is impossible to undo the political consortiums who catch hold of the most resources of the country.  We are also in doubt of his ‘cleanliness’ (free from any business of corruption and collusion).
I don’t know what he thinks about the misbehaviours of that UMNO woman minister, Shahrihzat and her family being so abusive with the funds allocated for rearing cattle for buying luxurious apartments.
Shahrihzat still dared to behave so aggressively to speak so well of herself and lacks of any sense of shame.  She has been bred in conducive corrupt environment stinking with rottenness to distinguish stink from fragrance.
If it is not wrong to abuse the funds allocated for rearing cattle to buy luxurious apartments, what wrong for those who sell the subsidised petrol, fertiliser, pesticide, ………for quick cash?  People want justice to be done accordingly but ………
When people shunned Shahrihzat in 308, Najib, stupidly used her against the people’s wish,  when people shunned ex-chief minister of Penang Koh Zi Keng, Najib, stupidly used him, ………..  How can Najib transform with the persons whom people shun and feel disgusted.  Najib who heads the train of coach laden with so many bad records, only gain the support from interest groups and ignorant ones.  At least 70 people feel ashamed of Najib and his corrupt ministers.
We people know it is impossible x impossible to transform when the country is headed with the indulgent, rotten and corrupt leaders.  You may boast in different wide coverage of mass media to blow your own trumpet but you cannot change the view of the adamants who see through and know the real problems and issues in the country.
We people No. 1 enemy is corruption and collusion and how can Najib and his corrupt ministers deal with this menace.  In short, how can a doctor critically ill with an advanced stage of cancer treat himself?  Tell us how?  Tell us how Najib is going to deal with Shahrihzat?  Tell us how Najib is going to deal with those corrupt and idiotic government officers / officials who play ignorant paying 100%+ to 2000% + above the market price for the goods?  Corruption and collusion are so rampant in Malaysia and how is Najib going to deal with the menace?  Taib Mahmud, the chief minister of Sarawak  is the most corrupt and rotten person in the whole-wide Malaysia, and how can we expect him to be charged when MACC is dead.
We people believe in PR government to deal with the BN corrupt leaders including Dr Mahaktir who is the culprit as he created the conducive environment for corruption and collusion.

Reactions to "Review teaching of English"

Reactions to “Reviewing teaching of English”  (7 August, 2011  The Borneo post)
How the national education system involving 13 years with 5 years of secondary school, is still unable to provide our students with a good grasp of the English Language, I,  myself, am incapable of answering.--- Muhyddin Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister.  (an idiot’s words)

We people have no one to blame but the Ministry of Education led by ambitious muddled-headed political thugs who are aggressive, arrogant,  ignorant and power-lust and know ‘nuts’ about education but wield the power to meddle everything in it.  In short, our education is pawned by these political thugs who always dominate the scenario.  We have so many education-based professionals and why are they not in arena to make wise and meticulous decision on the subject matter called ‘education’.
Yes, it is the change of the medium of education from English to BM in 1980s and we see the drop of English standard of our education system all the time.  It has deteriorated so much so that it is poor (not rich) now.  Very often we can describe it to be atrociously poor.  95% of Malaysians whose English after that big shift have no standard to refer to.  They are not proficient at all in terms of their grasp of English grammar, the sound system, pronunciation, stock of vocabulary and spelling.
Now let’s refer to Noam Chomsky’s definition of Competence and Performance.  According to Noam Chomsky, “Competence is what native speakers possess which enables them to produce and understand sentences.  Performance is the individual use of the knowledge in an act of communication, producing and understanding sentences”
(HBEL3203  TEACHING OF GRAMMAR) (a subject module from Open University, Malaysia)
Well, 13 years of English learning seems to “end up in a drain”.  Why?  Ask around.  Do the survey to find out the truths.  Here I have some questions for your questionnaires.  Ask…………………………….
          1.  if they have a good grasp of English grammar.
It is the foundation of a language and without it, our learners cannot fulfil
the various tasks in the output in speaking and writing properly.           Nobody
has the patient to listen or read the report full of grammatical
mistakes no matter how brilliant his ideas are.
2.  if they have a good knowledge of the English sound system,
              pronunciation and spelling.
Find out if it is true that we can only remember English words when we
              know how to pronounce them.
          3.  if they have a rich stock of vocabulary through reading intensively and
               extensively to build up.
There must be enough input through listening activities and reading texts in
English before you can expect the output in the production of the language
in speaking and writing.  I am totally convinced in Input-
Output theory which has been well-researched by the linguists in language
               learning.

Input            = listening and reading
                             Output          = speaking and writing
          4.  Ask yourselves if you have a good English programme for teaching and
              learning
          5.  if you have a long lists of graded English books to read and complete in the
13 years of formal English learning in school.

Make learners in each grade to read at least 30 books in a year.

What happens now is “a mad rat race” for As results.  Nobody cares how the As results are attained as everybody only focuses on the As.  Hence everybody is impatient with the process of proper teaching and learning of English.  Believe me, many and many schools as far as I know rely heavy on commercially produced workbooks which is compiled in test mode to ‘learn’ English.  Go around to check and see.  Hence what our students know  is fragment pieces of this and that.  They do not learn English in a systematic way.  They have failed to have a good grasp of English grammar and a good knowledge of English sound system.  This is the consequences of the short-cut for ‘As’ which our Ministry of education emphasises a lot for the awards of scholarship.
Is it clear now who should be accountable for overall poor English standard prevailing in our country?

The Sign Language from the Queen

The Sign Language from the Queen
We had the Bersih 2.0 Rally on 709 and quite a number of people in Yellow shirt emblazoned with the word ‘Bersih’ were arrested.  It is indeed very stupid of Najib to allow such an act to take place when he has advocated so much in paper, posters and banners that he claims “People first!”.  Arh!  It is in words only but fails totally to prove in actions, not knowing that he makes a fool of himself.  It is very very silly of Najib to deny the people to hold their gathering at the Merdeka Stadium with  the Sultan’s suggestion.  Alamak!  What a curse!  What a pity!  What a shame.
It is fatal to refuse to face the truth and reality when people request for clean and fair election.  The past elections either state or national,  have been so dirty and unfair.  Hence we have witnessed rampant votes buying.  Thus we face a very corrupt system of government who plunder and squander the resources of the country for self gain and interest.  We people want a genuine democratic country truly “by the people, for the people and of the people” in words and in deeds for the good and benefit of everyone.
We people see and record in our hearts and we associate the case of Atlantuya and the transaction of submarine with Najib whom we believe is so so dirty.
A day or two after, he had an appointment with Queen Elizabeth of England, our past-colonial power who received him and his wife in Yellow attire.  Some people said she also received them with a big vase of Yellow flowers.  Najib in his usual attire, a pair of dark trousers, a white shirt with a tie and a dark overcoat whereas his wife, Rosmah in her usual attire, baju kurung but blue in colour standing beside him.
Najib, no doubt, looked like a fool in the Queen’s presence whom I believe purportedly put on the Yellow attire and had a vase of Yellow flowers in the hall.  This is the first time I saw the Queen in Yellow attire.  This is, no doubt, a stroke that she hit right on Najib’s buttock to remind him  that he has disgraced the goddess of democracy.
This scenario, for sure, made many and many people like me rolling on the floor with their legs dancing in the air laughing their hearts out.  It is really amusing.
The world is no longer the same as 50s years ago.  We have reached the level of civilisation when we have the universal values to  upkeep and refer to.  It is disgraceful to become so phobic to see people in Yellow T-shirt with the word ‘Bersih 2.o’.   It is really and really ridiculous to waste time chasing and catching people wearing Yellow T-shirt with the word ‘Bersih’ as the act only tells the world how dirty and childish the BN government is.
Many people like me will not dare to wear Yellow T with Bersih 2.0 but we wear it in our hearts and I might custom-made an Yellow attire like Queen Elizabeth to wear occasionally.  I have never had attires all yellow, green, blue, red, pink, orange or purple when I am old enough to choose.   I never like the colour Yellow which I only wore once when my grandmother passed away in the funeral ceremony.  It is the Chinese custom that only the sons’ children wear yellow attire in the ceremony when the grandparents (father’s parents) passed away.  Yellow is a special colour in the funeral ceremony for the Chinese.  Believe me, very few Chinese will opt for this colour to wear. In future, we may see more and more people wearing T-shirts in yellow colour.

Rationalisation should start with Najib and Muhyddin

Rationalisation should start from……
It is reported that the official residence of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister each spend RM3.4 million a year for the household expenses!  RM3.4 million X 2 = RM6.8 million.  It is enough to pay for 20 houses costing RM340, 000 in a year.  What a waste!  It is blatantly abusive.  I think Najib and Muhyddin should explain why they should need so much money for their official residences.  Is it true that they each pay RM32,789 and 76 cents, for water ; RM171,131 and 14 cents for electricity (a month, not a year)…………  I hope Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would investigate their expenditures.  (My family spends about RM15 for water and about RM150 for electricity.)   Najib’s household spends 2185 times more than ours for water and 1141 times more than ours in electricity.  Alamak! What a curse! What a shame!
It is no doubt shocking to hear that the astronomical amount paid for household expenditure of PM and DPM when a lot of the people in Malaysia survive on meagre income.  Many people do not have decent living conditions.  People say the BN government are really corrupt.  I say it is beyond doubt.  Just count on the allocation to the various government agencies and how these high ranking officers swindle the money by hook or by crook.
It is not surprising at all to have the cases of a police dog that  cost RM 2000  but was credited as 30,000; a computer that cost RM 2500 but accounted at RM20,000;  the lists of abuse just go endless.  I believe we have endless records of these abuses.  These abuses are repeated every year.  No concrete actions have been taken so far to curb them, so, we are sorry to tell you that we want to ‘flush’ you out like how we flush the toilet.  It is too much.
We can understand why it is impossible X n for Najib to eradicate corruption and collusion in the country when the heads are all so corrupt themselves.  What we see daily is the show of big thieves catching the small thieves.
Then we see Satu Malaysia this and Satu Malaysia that and how you squander taxpayers’ money on those useless things to fool people around.   Adding up all the money wasted on Satu Malaysia is enough to upgrade a road of X kilometres.  We do not need all these rubbishes to become Satu.  What we people need is the government who is able to deliver in terms of good road system, public transport,  education,  drainage system (being a country with heavy rainfall), medical service, job opportunities……….
Now C2 fishing boat operators are being operated on in rationalisation.  We people will face even more expensive fishes like mackerel, groupers, snappers, pomfrets, …………. Mind you, we are very very angry and frustrated already.  We all see this blatantly unfair.  Scrapping off C2 fishing boat diesel subsidy is just like
pushing these fishermen off the cliffs to death.
As far as Sarawak is concerned, due to the rampant corruption and collusion, fishing boat licences are sold at exorbitant price by Taib Mahmud and his regime.  It has been rumoured that the ministers earn RM5000 a month for renting out a licence.
It is reported that about 289 foreign fishing boats registered as local fishing boats are operating in Sarawak waters.  The fishes of good quality are transported to their  mother countries and resold again to us.  Is it not ridiculous?  Hence we despise and feel really disgusted towards the BN government for all these selfish practices for their self-interest and gain only.
We hope MACC will continue the probe of Taib Mahmud and his regime.  We all believe that he has amassed US80 billion through all kinds of corruption and collusion.
We really hope that some justice will be done so that we can have the money back to develop and upgrade the infrastructure facilities in Sarawak.

Licence for sand dredging

Licence for sand dredging
We all know the construction industry  needs sand for many purposes.  I wonder why our BN government is not willing to issue licences for sand dredging.  I have read about an operator in Sibu who wanted to renew his licence but he was rejected.  I am not very sure about the exact reason(s) for his failure to get his licence renewed.
But I know Taib Mahmud and his cronies are in control of almost everything in Sarawak for themselves.  It is the government “by, for of”  Taib Mahmud and his cronies at the expense of Sarawakians.  It is an open secret that every licence of big operations issued required ‘a big sum of under-table $’.  I don’t know why Taib Mahmud and his cronies are not investigated at all by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at all.
By the words of mouth, I heard that Taib Mahmud and his family and his cronies have a cement manufacturing factory which requires a constant feeding of good sand.  Jabu and his family have the company sole right for dredging sand at will.  I hope they will prove to us that all these rumours are not true.  From here, I infer that it is the conflict of interest between these political thugs and the people.  This is the real cause of  problems when these political thugs abuse their power in collusion and when everything is “Me first!”  This is what has been happening since time immemorial in Sarawak.
It is not surprising that We Sibu / Sarawak often face cement shortage for the good reason that Taib Mahmud’s cement manufacturing company enjoy the monopoly of cement manufacturing for export and to hike the price at will locally.   This practice of Win-Loss has been going on since time immemorial.  That is why we all believe that Taib Mahmud has US80+ billion in his possession.  I have read an article that his eldest son who has just divorced with his first wife owns 17 expensive cars, 1000+ acres / hectares of land in Sarawak,…………  alamak!!!!  I don’t know whether Sarawakians are as shocked by this news as many were shocked to know that Ferdinand Marcos’ wife owned 300 expensive shoes and a lot of jewellery at the expense of Filipinos about 20s years ago.
We have such a long river like the Rejang River and it is heavily silted at many places and I see it no reason why the applicants are rejected for renewal or  new licences to do the dredging.   I just cannot understand why the construction industry faces the problem of cement shortage all the time.  I always attribute the problem to corruption and collusion to create the shortage to hike the price for their own benefits.
It is not hard for me to understand why the political thugs like Tengah Ali, James Masing, ……. are ever ready to pound on those who criticise Taib Mahmud.  He gives me the impression that he not only controls all the resources in Sarawak but also controls every of his subordinates.  He is just like Czar in old Russia.  He is like an emperor in old China.
We are not only facing the shortage of sand, we are also facing the shortage of timber for our local furniture manufacturing factories despite the fact that Sarawak is bestowed with the timber in abundance.  Now we Sarawakians face the curse of Taib Mahmud and his cronies to face these problems.  The real cause of the problem is corruption and collusion in different transaction all to their advantages and their self-interest.
We should rally as many Sarawakians as possible to flush them out as soon as possible either through voting or …………….
