A letter to UCTS and Cc to Talikhidmat 18/8/2019
On behalf of
Sarawakians, I would like to complain about high fees charged on students by
University College Technology of Sarawak.
As I understand that this university “ Founded in 2013, UCTS is the only
university which is wholly owned by the Sarawak State Government.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_College_of_Technology_Sarawak).
UCTS is wholly owned by the Sarawak
government and why is it still considered as a private university? Is it not ridiculous and absurb?
Based on my best knowledge of the fee
structures in government universities, they are within the range of RM15,000 to
RM30,000 for undergraduate courses. I
wonder why Sarawakians have to pay so much for the tertiary education at
UCTS. The total fees paid for each course on average
is RM60,000 to RM70,000.
One of my friends whose son has only paid RM50,000
plus for both the Bachelor and Master degrees at Curtin University,
Sarawak. That is why she sought for the
transfer of her son from UCTS to a university in Kuching, which she only has to
pay RM30,000 plus for the whole course.
I wonder if the university is again manipulated by
someone in authority or the political consortium monopolically.
I am seeking for answer on behalf of all the parents
in Sarawak, especially Sibu.
Yours faithfully,
Ling Moi Hung.
